Does the HGTV Dream Home Disappoint? Plus, How You Can Buy the Hotel California (Really)

Is the 2019 HGTV Dream Home a fantasy or a flop? That’s the question we set out to answer on this week’s episode of “House Party.” The cable network unveiled the lavishly designed home—its 23rd!—this week and we could not wait to dig into the photos and judge it. (Judging things is our favorite pastime, after all.)

The Montana mountain retreat is a heavenly escape, for sure, but we have a few questions (OK, a lot of questions) about the decor decisions. It’s not all bad—we could certainly make ourselves at home in the $2.3 million rustic-contemporary retreat. But let’s just say there were some choices made in this place, y’all. (Um, textile taxidermy?) Just trust us when we say you’ll want to see the master bedroom (Natalie is not having it).

Speaking of choices, have you figured out what you’re bringing to your next White Elephant/Yankee Swap/Dirty Santa/Nasty Christmas gift exchange? Yes, there are four somewhat interchangeable names for this tradition, leading to some confusion for yours truly. Join us as we discuss some of the most outrageous home-related gifts you can find for that special someone—or for an office co-worker you hardly know. (Two words: Potty. Putter.)

Then: We polled some very regretful home sellers about the improvements and repairs they wish they hadn’t made before putting their houses on the market. Rachel and Erik try to guess which decisions caused the most remorse—and were caught off guard by at least one of them.

Unique home(s) alert! We’ve got two jaw-droppers for you: A power plant-turned-Pinterest-perfect home in Oregon will shock you (yes, we went there). Or you can be the owner of the 18-room Hotel California in Palm Springs, CA—all for the low, low price of $3.5 million. You can leave this particular Hotel California, but why would you want to?

Ready to get into it? Join us for all this and more on this week’s episode of “House Party.” You can subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Google Play Music, Spotify, or Stitcher—and, by all means, throw us five stars if you like what you hear. The more good ratings and reviews we have, the easier it’ll be for people to find us.

Have a wacky home-related story you’re dying to share? Wish you could finally get your real estate questions answered? We’re all ears. Reach us at podcast@realtor.com, or follow @housepartypod on Twitter.
