Many Americans see buying a million-dollar home as a sign that they’ve finally made it, but is this still true in today’s housing market? What will a chunk of change this size buy you today? Once it was a figure synonymous with raw wealth. Today it’s synonymous with what exactly?

We scoured million-dollar listings in 10 different neighborhoods across the country to find out just how far your seven-figure certified check can go.

From a one-bedroom in New York City to sprawling symphonic mansions in Oklahoma City, you’ll quickly see that a million dollars circa 2015 can mean vastly different things.
