Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are officially engaged! After long months of frenzied speculation, the rumors of impending nuptials have finally been verified in a royal statement: “His Royal Highness and Ms. Markle became engaged in London earlier this month.”
After the wedding takes place in spring 2018, “the couple will live in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace.” Lucky couple!
Granted, Prince Harry has been bopping around Kensington since he was in diapers, so it’s just more of the same for him. But talk about a huge transition for Markle!
For the past seven years, this actress and native of Los Angeles has been living in Toronto to star in the legal drama “Suits.” Not surprisingly, she’s quit the show to move onto far fancier living quarters.
Still, we have to say, her bungalow-style Toronto home is quite nice in its own right.
Markle has never been shy about sharing photos of her pad on Instagram, and it’s clear that her Southern California roots influenced her design aesthetic. Every corner of her home, from the living room to the guest room, reflects a warm, coastal-chic style: an abundance of white and beige linens, reclaimed wood furniture, a banana leaf plant, and enough freshly cut peonies to keep a florist in business. (Seriously, there’s a vase of peonies in nearly every photo of her home!)
Below are some of our favorite home pics that give us a sense of her design sensibility. Who knows? Maybe she’ll carry that same style across the pond to her future home in Kensington Palace.
Bright and airy living room
Markle shares her Toronto home with her adorable rescue pups Bogart and Guy. These two dogs sure are lucky their mom lets them chill on her white sofa. Other elements that scream beach chic are the striped linen throws, the reclaimed wood tray, and the photograph of the seashore in the background.
Marble dining table
A cozy sheepskin throw adorns a white Eames chair that pairs well with Markle’s crisp Carrara marble dining table. Note the vase overflowing with peonies, Markle’s official favorite flower.
Side table vignette
Markle styles a reclaimed wood side table with fashion-focused coffee table books and a more modern black tray to hold trinkets and (gasp!) another vase of peonies.
Cozy sitting room
The shearling throws on these twin rattan chairs in the entryway probably make them all the more comfortable to lounge on. To open things up, Markle placed a mirror on the wall opposite a window to make the room look more spacious. No peonies here, but check out that bison skull hanging on the wall.
Bedside table
Another picture-perfect vignette arranged on Markle’s bedside table shows that the future royal is consistent in her design loves: expensive candles, books about fashion, and colorful flower arrangements like—yes—more peonies.
