If you’re having trouble nailing down a decor scheme for your home, you can put down the design books and step away from Pinterest: The answer may already be written in the stars!
Yes, it turns out that your zodiac sign—that astrological profile based on your birthdate—can tell you a lot about your personal style.
“Astrology can help us understand our subconscious patterns and preferences, giving us clues to what’s healthy and energizing for our unique nature,” says astrologer Katrin Haiba. “All of these considerations are crucial for designing a space that truly feels like home.”
Haiba, for example, says people can tell she is a Taurus as soon as they walk into her New York City apartment. Taurus is an Earth sign, attracted to natural, high-quality materials. True to form, she has a rose, lilac, and herb garden, and her apartment is full of cashmere and leather, and comfy down pillows.
“Consulting the stars can help us make more courageous and authentic choices, instead of blindly following the mass-market trends,” she says.
If you’re wondering how your own zodiac sign can play into your decor choices, read on—and let the stars guide you home.
Aries (March 21–April 19)

Your personality is full of fire—adventurous, courageous, and energetic. Because of this, you shouldn’t shy away from color in your home, says Laura Bohn, principal designer at Laura Bohn Design in New York City. Try an accent wall to match your high energy, and think outside the box with bold textures and upholstery.

You’re a grounded personality, craving comfort and coziness. Home needs to be your “heaven on Earth,” Bohn says—a place you never want to leave. You also prefer natural but high-quality materials. Bohn recommends decorating with natural fibers such as wool or mohair. You’ll appreciate wooden elements in your space, perfectly contrasted with anything soft and comfortable.
What to buy: Williams Sonoma mohair pillow cover with contrast edge in pewter, $199
Gemini (May 21–June 21)

You’re curious about the world, love to travel, and sociable and lively. Geminis should try meshing different designs together to keep their space interesting, Bohn says. Get global inspiration from Moroccan tiles, kilim rugs, and fun patterns.
What to buy: World Market woven cotton kilim Orissa area rug, $200
Cancer (June 22–July 22)

Cancers are loving and emotional homebodies who love to put down roots. If you’re a Cancer, an open concept is ideal, Bohn notes. You should fill your home with warm, comforting elements like oversized pillows. Stick to neutral colors, and make the space inviting, not overly trendy.

Leo (July 23–Aug. 22)

Leos are the life of the party and always want to entertain. Your best bet is to keep your home full of conversation pieces, Bohn says, like interesting art, metallics, and bold colors. Plan to include ample seating for guests, and don’t forget a bar cart!
What to buy: West Elm terrace bar cart, $399
Virgo (Aug. 23–Sept. 22)

Virgos can be meticulous, analytical, and practical. Bohn recommends picking out neutral colors and minimalist furniture. Focus on making functional design choices throughout, like easy-to-clean floors and tiles.
What to buy: Ikea Landskrona sofa, $799
Libra (Sept. 23–Oct. 22)

Libras are peacekeepers who seek harmony in their homes. It’s all about balance for Libras, so design symmetry is important, Bohn says. You should try to juxtapose styles, but beware of going too modern or too traditional. Find a blended style that works for you.

Scorpio (Oct. 23–Nov. 21)

Scorpios are magnetic and passionate and have strong personalities. Try bold uses of shapes, Bohn says, and don’t be afraid to take risks with unique colors such as chartreuse. And, if you’re feeling really brave, she dares you to try painting one wall black.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22–Dec. 21)

A Sagittarius can be straightforward, intellectual, and philosophical. Stick with clean lines, and then accessorize with books to give the home a library feel, Bohn suggests. Creating intricate reading nooks around your space will feel inviting.

Capricorn (Dec. 22–Jan. 19)

Capricorns understand status and unparalleled craftsmanship. They also tend to be musically inclined. Invest in a top-level sound system, and look for long-lasting, high-quality pieces you’ll appreciate. Try a show-stopping piano in the living room, for example.

Aquarius (Jan. 20–Feb. 18)

As an air symbol, you are all about clear-as-sky decor and you lust after anything that has a bit of movement, like the wind. Opt for home accessories that are translucent such as glass bowls and candlesticks, Bohn recommends. Then mix in items that are opaque, like frosted glass, for added sparkle.
What to buy: Ethan Allen pitted glass bowl, $199
Pisces (Feb. 19–March 20)

Your symbol is the fish and, as such, you tend to go with the flow. A Pisces’ imagination can also run wild, so it’s important to look for original artwork that will cater to the dreamer within, Bohn says. Go for murals with movement in them—like water, wind, or even surfing. Marine-related accessories will look great strategically placed, without overwhelming the space.
